I so need to post pictures. Sorry, not this time either!

More random comments on our days:

I am up in the middle of the night despite Eric's best attempts to cure me of jet lag.

I have not turned any lights on, so gnats are flocking to the light of my iPad, giving me quite an entertaining little game while I try to type and avoid squashing them.

We have spotted 3 lizards in the house. The first two were tiny, the third small. Eric tried to shoo the first one out but was unsuccessfully. He tried to pick it up by the tail, but the tail came off. (Ewww!). He finally picked it up and threw it out. The second one the kids took care of, much more efficiently! Anna set a bag in front of the thing, it ran into the bag which she then took outside. And the third? Well, I spotted it, and it scrambled into the circuit breaker box. So it is probably still in our house. I guess I should have called Anna to capture the thing! It was in the section of the house which is supposed to be maid's quarters. I, being the maid, was headed to the laundry room. Actually, that end of the house really is going to be mine. The room which is supposed to be the maids bedroom will be my stamping room.

We went on a shopping expedition yesterday looking for, among other things, a rug I had fallen in love with a month or so ago. At the time we were not sure we would be living here so we couldn't buy it. The large size we needed for our living room was gone. They had another rug - same pattern but different colors. As I looked at it I decided I loved it even more. But then we got around to the issue of price. It was too expensive, so we remain rugless for now. Our living room furniture is very bland, which is actually a good thing. I can choose anything I want to accessorize! I pal on making pillows for the couch and chairs. In fact, I hope to make several different pillow covers and change them seasonally. (Or whenever the mood strikes me!)

Tomorrow (later today, really) we go to the school to meet a counselor. If you don't follow me on Facebook you missed this bit of exciting news: WE FINALLY LEARNED THE KIDS CAN GO TO TAIPEI AMERICAN SCHOOL! I was stressing over that more than any other part of our move. Our realtor told us we had to pester them constantly and go there in person if they didn't help on the phone. I, being completely phobic of confrontation, could not do it. I don't know if Eric is less afraid of confrontation or simply had to be the man, but he went to the school in person yesterday. He was able to bypass the woman who has been getting us nowhere and went straight to the head of admissions. She told him it would be no problem and set up the meeting for today. YEAH!!!! Orientation is on Friday; first day of school next Thursday. Double yeah! I will be floating on the pool, alone, next Thursday. Just hope there are no lizards...

  2. Your new life sounds idyllic. I am trying not to be envious of the fact that you have a view, a garden and a pool in which to float. I guess that the lizards do not sound like something I want around the house. I will think about the lizards when I am tempted to covet!

  3. Lizards are fine and harmless. I used to catch them during my childhood in California. You'll live although I know that creeping things sound gross! :)

I just saw a beaver running around on the grass outside your (my) bedroom window, so I guess we both have wildlife!

  4. R - pretty sure it's not a beaver, although they do live in the pond. It's a groundhog. They are everywhere. I used to watch one out back. Sometimes I would see dirt flying at the edge of the woods and wonder what in the world was going on. Then I'd see the groundhog. They dig holes and escape into them. Amazing how those fat things fit into little holes!

  5. Laura, I would have thought it was a groundhog but it came straight from the woods and had that weird dark brown huge flat tail like beavers do. Eden confirmed it. She said, "I'm going to go out there and catch it."

Ha ha. Maybe it was a mutilated groundhog.

  6. R - Wow! You DID see a beaver! That is one thing I never managed to see. Eric and the kids did, the neighbors did, but I never did. Wait! I DID see one once. It was flat on the road in front of the pond. Does that count? Actually, I would probably be afraid to go into the woods now, afraid of running into a real, live beaver.
