Another Snow Day...

Except this time it's not for the kids!

Eric and Jim are taking Monday off and giving Alicia and I a "snow day"! Isn't that cool? I think we're actually going to go somewhere on Sunday and spend the night in a hotel. That "somewhere" is yet to be determined. (Hopefully later today over coffee.) I am so excited!

"Un-Snow" Day

I said I wouldn't write about snow anymore, and I'm not. I'm writing about "Un-snow".

Yes folks, school is closed again today. Since we have not had any new massive snowfalls, I can only guess today is an "un-snow" day. And if you can figure out what that means please let me know, because it is a complete mystery to me.

Oh and, never fear kids! The Valentine's "Friendship" Day parties you missed last Friday have been rescheduled for this Friday! We wouldn't want to work you too hard. We know you need a party - two days after returning from 2 weeks of unscheduled time off!!!

RI-DI-CU-LOUS!!!!

I'll Stop Soon

Are you tired of me writing about snow? I'm tired of it. Unless something BIG happens, I'll quit after this one thing which I forgot to tell about.

My kid's skating lessons have come to an abrupt halt. The roof of the skating rink collapsed from the weight of the snow during the last storm. It sounds like there was some warning that it was happening, so thankfully no one was injured.

This storm has truly been a big deal around here!

It's snowing. Again.

The kids are home from school. Still.

I think there's a good chance they'll be home all week.

We survived the last storm intact. We had house guests for 2 nights. My brother lost power and water at his house on Saturday so he and his family stayed with us. On Monday when they checked with the power company they were told power might not be back until Wednesday. So my brother and I drove to his house to gather clean clothes for everyone. When he walked in the door he realized the power was on! They still didn't have running water, but were told someone was in the area working on it so it should be restored soon. I heard from him this morning that they DO have water, although it is brown. (Eewww!)

In the greater Washington DC area there are still loads of people without power, and the next storm is upon us. Many people have gone to hotels and to stay with relatives. I honestly don't know how others are surviving. Temperatures have been COLD at night - down around zero.

So despite being tired of snow and ready for the kids to go to school, I am thankful for a warm house, abundant water and food.

The Walden Table

Here's "The Walden Table" after the December storm:

and here it is today:

...and it's still snowing!

Storm Update

It's almost 1 p.m. and we're still in the thick of the storm. It started off slow yesterday. It began snowing at my house at 9:18 a.m. By 4:30 p.m. we had only received about 3 inches of snow, and it was melting on sidewalks and roads so not a problem. (In other words, my kids could have gone to school!!!) But, as predicted, the snow began coming down much heavier in the late evening and we got a LOT overnight. Eric went out to shovel this morning, just so we wouldn't have to shovel it all at one time at the end. Here is how it looked this morning:

About 11:30 I went to take a turn at shoveling. With each of us, we shoveled the sidewalk then went to partially shovel out our car. By the time we were finished at the car there was already 2 more inches on the sidewalk!

I took a couple of pictures to try to give you some perspective of how much snow we've received THUS FAR. It is still snowing like crazy, and not supposed to quit until late tonight!

I thought I had left this all behind when I left Minnesota 15 years ago! I think I would move to Florida, except I don't like alligators.

And Again...

This state is crazy!!! Another storm is on it's way, and it's supposed to be a huge one. We are likely to get AT LEAST as much snow as we had in December. (Two feet in 1 day!) It is supposed to start snowing sometime Friday afternoon, so you know what they've done? They've already cancelled school for tomorrow! And THEN... they are already predicting another storm for next Tuesday. I don't know when my kids will ever go to school again.

On the bright side, I guess I'll get to sleep in a lot!

As things develop I'll try to post some more pictures.

Here We Go Again...

Another snow day! I've heard it's going to be a snowy month. While it's true I don't like snow, it does make for some pretty pictures. I walked down to the creek and took some this morning. I mostly used my "real" camera, but I took one on the digital so I could show you how pretty it is:
